The University of Colorado is currently seeking applicants to compete in its annual Poetry Slam (www.cupoetryslam.org). The Poetry Slam is set to take place in CU’s Glenn Miller Ballroom on Mar. 16. This year, the Poetry Slam Committee will be opening up auditions beyond CU-Boulder to include any interested poets from Naropa University, University of Denver, Regis University, CU-Colorado Springs and more.
The Poetry Slam Committee auditions all applicants and selects 10-13 applicants as well as an invited accomplished slam poet to perform at the event. CU’s Poetry Slam is more than a live poetry reading; it is an actual competition of performance-based poetry. The invited poet typically has a few championships under his/her belt, and acts as an emcee for the evening. Last year’s invited poet was Ebony “Isis” Booth, a member of the Denver Poetry Slam team who has won multiple poetry slams in the past.
The deadline for applications to compete in this year’s Poetry Slam is February 14th at 5:00 p.m. Apply online at www.cupoetryslam.org.
